Antelope Island

One of the spots we visited while we were in the US this summer was Antelope Island. We've been there before but it was the dead of winter and it's not so nice to stop and get out and enjoy the scenery. This time we braved the absurd amount of biting gnats and the wild wind to do a little exploring.

For those who don't know, Antelope Island is the largest island in the Great Salt Lake (also known as the big stinky pond). It's connected to the "mainlands" by a 7ish mile long causeway.

There is a roaming herd of about 500 buffalo and we were lucky enough to see quite a few on our visit.

Those tiny little brown specks are all buffalo, I swear it!

We took a picnic lunch with us. Martijn started laughing like a maniac when he saw this sign so of course he needed to take a picture! Shortly after this we fled back to the car to finish eating our chicken without getting eaten alive by demon gnats.

If you're in the area, I recommend checking it out! You can ride your bike over the causeway or go by car. If there are insane biting gnats, I recommend the later so you have somewhere to hide from them while you eat your picnic lunch.

Summer is over and we're starting back up with AlphabeThursday! This week A is for... Antelope Island!
